Addition Battle

We learned a new game on Friday during math. This is a game that can easily be played at home. It's great for practicing math facts. The game is called Addition Battle.
The only thing you need to play this game is one deck of cards. Below are the directions.

Check us out in action!

First Day Jitters

It's not uncommon that the first day of school brings high emotions (whether they be good or bad). Lots of us get so very nervous about starting a new school year, with new friends and a new teacher. For this very reason, we read the book First Day Jitters. This book is about someone who is dreading her first day. On the last page you find out that its the teacher!
The kids in my class loved the surprise ending. Which lead to me telling them that I was a nervous wreck about starting second grade myself.
So, to calm all of our jitters, we enjoyed a cup of Jitter Juice! Lots of the kids wanted a second cup but it only takes one cup to set your nerves at ease. 😉

First week complete!

What an awesome first week of school! We are gradually learning the " ropes" of second grade...it warms my heart to see how enthusiastic the kids are to learn new things, read and participate in lessons. This tear will BEE a great one...there's no doubt about it.

Masters of Addition and Subtraction

We will have tests on math facts three times a week. Each time a test is passed, a certificate will be attached to the test they passed. They will test on the same fact family until 100% of the facts are passed in 1 minute. Students will only o to the next fact family when they pass the last at 100%.  If you have any questions please contact me. Practice ALL math facts at home every night for 10-15 minutes. Once they have passed all addition and subtraction they will need to pass a mixed test of 100 addition and subtraction facts in 5 minutes. Students should master all of their facts before entering 3rd grade.

6. clipboards for writers workshop and working on the classroom floor.
