Teeth!

*****Warning*****
Toothless cuties on the loose.

Oh my goodness!  I feel like everyone's tooth is falling out.  Yesterday I spent a good chunk of the mornig trying to convince this kiddo to "just yank that tooth out!" It was seriously hanging by a thread. I even told her I pull it for her.

Post Overload

Sorry for the plethora of posts! I haven't ever stopped taking pictures, but second grade got a bit busy, ad so did life...
I'm trying to play catch up, so I apologize for an abundance of emails, or alerts the blog may be sending you at this time.
Happy Reading!

Plant Unit Needs

We have started a two week long plant unit. I wanted to do a fun activity with the kids. I am in need of some extra supplies before the week is over:
-Soil
-Grass seed
-Seeds with a speedy germination
-Two pairs of panty hose (they don't have to be new.)
2 or 3 cheap plants (for experiment purposes...so some will die). Anything helps...thanks!

Beautiful Writing Weather

The weather has been so nice!  We have been taking all the opportunities we can to go outside.
I was hoping that writin outside would spark some new ideas during wiring time!

Polygons

Last week was a review in math. We talked about polygons and 3D shapes. I figured this go around we would do more fun activities since we all pretty much grasped those concepts te first time around.
We went outside and creates the shapes with yarn. We used our hands as vertices and talked about each shape from a triangle to an octagon!
The challenge was to make an octagon with with 40 people and 8 pieces of yarn. Working together was key in this activity. Here are some pictures!

Playing in the Pollen!

So on Friday it was such a nice day. We did writing outside and practice polygons for math. ALL OUTSIDE! As I write this post,I am just now figuring out why I had such a headache and my eyes were burning as I ended that day...too much exposure to the POLLEN. Yuck!  Maybe we can have a hands on lesson about pollen since we are studying plants this week. Ha!

Researching the Alamo

This week in social studies, we are going over Texas landmarks. Each second grade class has a different Texas landmark to research and present at the end of the week. Our landmark is the Alamo. We will be going through all the step of research.
A great site for students to do web searching is called www.kidrex.org. We used this site, books, and short movies to gain lots of information on our topic.
We have just starte step four of research which is where we organize our information.
We still have tons to do, because for step 4 (present and share) we will be making All About Books and presenting a poster to all of second grade. Research is lots of work, but they are all doing a great job with it.

Let the voting begin!

We had lots of fun learning about elections, who can vote, and the process. We held our own election for the class president.
We already have clas jobs, so picking jobs for the class president was pretty difficult.
The biggest incentive to the class president is that they get to choose the class snack for the day!  I didn't think that was a big deal....but apparently, that's BIG!
After knowing what the class presidents job entails, we had to nominate some classmates to run.
We made posters and gave speeches. From there we nominated 4 people to place on our electronic ballot. The kids had tons of fun!

Congrats Hailey....the Hives Classroom President.

This post is for class use. We are practicing the voting process by having our own vote for classroom president. All students who have "registered" to vote will be participating. Good luck to all four nominees!
