Calling all dads, uncles, grandpas, and father figures!!!!

Don't forget that Tuesday is the Watchdog Programs kick off. Come out and see what the program is all about.  Don't miss out on your free pizza!

Names, names, names

We are still working on our names. Last week we concentrated on every curved line and straight line in out individual names. We made bean names, sticker names, and glue names....I wonder what else we will be doing with names???

Nursery Rhymes

Nursery Rhymes are traditional! Why shouldn't we all learn a nursery rhyme or two. Of course they are also great for teaching rhyming words and punctuation. While learning the. Odor blue, we also learned about Little Boy Blue.  The nursery rhyme little boy blue has lots of periods and question marks in it.  I bet if you point to a period in a book, your child will now be able to tell you what it is and what it means.  I'm so excited about how much we have learned, and we have only been in school for 14 days!

The Alphabet

Last week we touched a lot on the alphabet.  What is the alphabet? How many letters does it have? What are capital and lowercase letters? These are all questions we hope to have mastered by the end of the year...or even sooner.  This is a picture of us working with out alphabet arches. We are matching up the letters. Soon, we hope to know all the letters in the arch.

Remembering September 11th

Last week we had a small discussion about the tragedy that happen on September 11th. After our discussion we made our very own twin towers.

First Day of Sorting

We sorted by colors today! We will be doing a lot more sorting as the year goes on. Sorting is something you can work on at home. Have your child sort the silverware and put it away. You can also have them sort the laundry. Sorting by lights, darks and white are kinda hard, but why not sort by moms clothes, dads clothes and their own clothes.  There as so many ways and things you can sort.

Check us out! We even sorted our snack today :)

I hope to see every one tomorrow at parent information night. It starts promptly at 6pm. We will be going over lots of expectations for the year, you will be getting some things to use T home with your kiddos, and you will also be  able to get any questions you may have about prek and our school answered.  I will also have a sign up for conferences tomorrow night. Don't miss out on all this great information. Let's start the year off right! See you tomorrow night. :)

Name Puzzles

On Friday, I introduced the class to name puzzles.  Name puzzles are a great way for each child to recognize and learn the letters in their names.  I made a special puzzle for each and every students.  Here are some students working on their name puzzles.

You can make a name puzzle for your child to practice with at home.  Just make two identical name strips.  Cut only one of the strips into individual letters.  VIOLA!  That's all it is.  When your child is comfortable with putting their name together, take away the strip with their full name and see if they can still do it!  If they can still do it, that means its time to move to writing their name.

Messy Learning

We had tons of fun playing with shaving cream in the morning class. It's a little messy, but well worth it!

Learning Stations/ Centers

When the children are in centers, that is my time to pull students that are struggling with different skills or even excelling in skills and  give them one on one attention.  Before pulling students for that extra help or enrichment, I must teach the children to direct their play for learning on their own.  Once I feel the students can work in stations/centers independently, I can begin to pull small groups.

This is the block center. We will be learning lots of new centers in the near future. It's great to see the depth of the children's imagination, and what the can build with the blocks. Also, blocks are another great tool for working on fine motor skills.

This is the Playdoh center. Student work on fine motor skills and letters in this center.

Learning Red

R-e-d spells red! Your child should be able to sing the song and recognize the word by now. Through this week we learned about scissors saftey and neat coloring. We were able to make a red page for our color book!

Our red page for our color books.

Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?

Who took the cookie from the cookie jar? Well, you have to recognize your name to play this game. The kiddos are doing so well with this. Name recognition is something you can work on at home too! If your child can already recognize their name, work on recognizing individual letter in their name.
