Dry Ice Experiment

Today we did an experiment with dry ice. The kids have anxiously anticipated this experiment. What we did was take a small piece of dry ice and place it in a bowl. Next we added hot water so that the ice would begin to change states. (Did you know that dry ice goes from a solid right to a gas?) We covered the top of the bowl with a layer of bubbles. This trapped the gas in the bowl. The gas filled up all the space under the bubble, and continued to grow until. It could stretch no more. Then.....POP! All the gas comes out!  Very. Cool.
