Special Reader!

Today we had our first parent reader!  The kids really enjoyed it. She read a non fiction book about spiders, and then gave the kids spider rings!  I think the rings were their favorite part. Who's going to read to us next?

Math Fact Test

Yesterday I told the kids that we will not be doing timed test for math facts anymore. This does not mean we won't be practicing math facts. I will instill a strong number sense into your child so that when they have to recall facts, they can use strategies instead of just recalling a fact just because it's something they memorized. This way when we ask them why 4+6= 10 they will be able to explain it and also transfer that knowledge to problem solving and other things. This change is definitely for the better. I am still looking for a way to replace our fact wall with something that depicts how fluent we are in our facts. When I find out what that is, you will be the first to know.

We're going on a treasure hunt...

We went on a scavenger hunt to find treasure!!! We used all four directions found on a compass to get to the treasure. The kids did a great job distinguishing north, south, east and west.
