This week, our shared reading book was The Very Hungry Caterpillar. We focused on story retelling and sequencing with this book. We also used it to talk about the Basic Needs. Even though The Very Hungry Caterpillar wasn’t a human, he still needed lots of the same things we need. He needed food, which is why he ate so much food. He even got sick when he ate too much junk food! The kids and I talked about healthy and unhealthy food. At the beginning of the week, some of us though a lollipop was HEALTHY, but by the end of the week we were all on the same page... hehehe!![]()
The caterpillar also needed shelter. He wrapped himself in a cocoons to keep himself safe from harm and to keep warm. We don’t wrap up in a cocoon, but we need a home to keep us safe from bad weather and to be safe.
Lastly we talked about needing clean air/oxygen to breathe. If we don’t have air we cant live. And if we don’t live, we cant grow and change like the caterpillar did. The caterpillar grew into a beautiful butterfly! I wonder what all of these kiddos will be one day?
Below is a flow map. It show the sequencing of the story. We also made Hungry Caterpillar Handprints. Aren't they cute!
