Sorting

Sorting is something that we will work on throughout the year.  But this week was our first exposure to it here in the classroom.  We read a book called The Button Box, and then we practiced sorting buttons all different ways.  We sorted the buttons by size, color and shape.  Here is a picture of buttons we sorted by color. 

Sorting is something we practice all the time not even realizing it!  We sort our silverware by forks, spoons and knives.  We also sort our clothes into loads of darks, lights and whites!  What else do you sort at your house? 

When we get really good at sorting you can put your child to work.  They will be able to sort the laundry, and you can just throw it in the washing machine OR give them a chore of putting the silverware away.  Use sorting to your advantage….plus it’s great practice for your little ones!
