Non Standard/ Standard Units of Measurement

Today we talked about the difference be tween standard units of measurement and non standard. An inch, a centimeter, a foot...those are all standard units of measurement. If we measure something with out hands, manipulative cubes, or crayons....those are non standard units. 

We also talked about using the appropriate unit to measure things. You wouldn't measure your desk in centimeters, but you might measure you crayon with them. You wouldn't measure your body in inches, you would measure your body in feet!  We had fun going around the room and measuring things.
