Cranberry Jelly

Because our Turkey day is coming up, we made cranberry jelly.  When the Pilgrims and Native Americans were getting ready for the first Thanksgiving feast, everyone had a job….even the young children.  Lots of the children picked berries.  Here is how we made our cranberry jelly.
Step 1: One cup of water.

Step 2: One cup of sugar.

Step 3: Boil the sugar and water and add CRANBERRIES

Step 4: Let it simmer for 15 minutes, stirring it occasionally (It was fun to listen to all the berries burst and pop open)
Step 5: Refrigerate
Step 6: Enjoy!

White Glue: "A dot hits the spot, and you don't need a lot!"

I introduced white glue to the class last week.  We were going through the glue sticks way too fast.  Anyway, they really enjoy using the white glue.  We practiced putting dots of glue on a dotted sheet of paper.  We also practice opening and closing our glue.  I think we are all "glue experts."

Our glue saying:
"A dot hits the spot and you dont need a lot!"

Taking A Look Inside…a LIMA BEAN!

Today we took a close look at the outside and inside of a lima bean  This is what we learned…

Seeds have an outer coat

Seeds have a small embryo (the start of a seedling) inside..and a root

The rest of the seed (the" “meat” of it) provides food for the plant as it grows

More Dr. Seuss books!

Today we had another guess reader.  The CISD Early Childhood Specialist, Mrs. Sarah Wood, paid us a visit and read TWO Dr. Seuss books!  We enjoyed our time with her and hope she comes back in the near future to share other favorite books of hers.  THANKS MRS. WOOD!

Sight Word Practice

Today we practiced our sight words with playdoh.  Please be sure you are going over the 35 sight words with your child EVERYDAY.  This will help their reading and writing.

Valentine’s Party!

Who would have thought that the 100 Enfamil cans I was hoarding in my garage, for two years, would have made fantastic valentine’s card holders.  One persons trash is definitely any teachers treasure.  check out some of the pictures from our party.

The Moon

This week we learned about the Earth, stars and the moon.  I was surprised to see how much some students know about the earth.  I think their favorite thing to learned about was gravity.  We had fun turning gravity "on" and "off" in the classroom.  It was also fun to take turns pretending to be the Earth or the Sun and rotating around each other.

My favorite thing to show everyone was the phases of the moon because this time I got to eat something.  YUMMY!

3D Shapes

Today we studied the CUBE.  We had to revisit our shapes and talk about how a cube is different from a square.  We talked about how both have sides and corners, but a cube has multiple faces.  We had fun building cubes with gum drops and toothpicks.

3D Shapes

We are having so much fun with dimensional shapes this week.  I think the classes favorite part is that they get to eat their project.  Today we worked on the 3d shape of a CONE.  We made Christmas Tree’s!
