Sight Words

We have been working very hard on identifying our 21 sight words. We use flashcards, play games, and even try and use the words in or writing. Here are some games that we play.

Sight word stack:
write sight words on plastic cups. Identify the cup. If you identify it right, begin to stack them to make a tower. How high can you make your tower?

Sight word parking lot:

Use flash cards to identify the sight words. If you identify it correctly, park a car in the parking lot. Play until the parking lot is full!

You can easily make and play these games at home. 

The sight word “it”

We know three words now: I, the, and the word it!

We found the word it multiple times in this weeks shared reading book.  Here we are putting the word together.

We are learning words!

We will be learning the word 'the' this week. It's our "secret password"! Everyday when the kids come home, and before they go home, they must touch and say the secret password. Help your child identify the word 'the' in books you read them, or even on a flashcards you have made for them. This is the beginning stage of reading!

Sight Word Practice

Today we practiced our sight words with playdoh.  Please be sure you are going over the 35 sight words with your child EVERYDAY.  This will help their reading and writing.

Please remember to review sight words daily. Reviewing sight words will help your child be a more fluent reader.

Here are a list of the 35 kindergarten sight words.  By the end of the year, your child should be able to recognize all 35 words.  Please review these words daily.  The more words you child can recognize, the better your child's reading fluency will be.
